West Papua is ready to hold the 2020 regional elections

Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) of West Papua Province Amus Atkana stated that his party is ready to carry out simultaneous regional head elections (pilkada) in 2020.

In the 2020 Pilkada Preparation Work Meeting, in Manokwari, Wednesday, Amus stated that the next year's regional elections in West Papua will be attended by nine districts, namely Manokwari, South Manokwari, Arfak Mountains, Bintuni Bay, Wondama Bay, Fakfak, Kaimana, Raja Ampat and South Sorong.

At the meeting which was attended by two Indonesian KPU commissioners, Evi Novida Ginting and Wahyu Setyawan, Amus revealed that of the nine regions that will carry out the elections next year, most of the KPU have received grant funds. The remaining South Manokwari Regency has yet to sign the regional election grant agreement (NPHD) text.

He stated that the discussion of regional election funds in West Papua was quite tough. This is considered to create the impression that the local government has not made thorough preparations.

Even so, he is grateful that the regional governments are finally ready to finance the implementation of democratic parties in their respective regions. Of the nine regions, Teluk Wondama was the fastest to sign the NPHD.
