The Papua Special Autonomy Fund is considered to have a positive impact

The government has been disbursing special autonomy funds (Otsus) for Papua for nearly 20 years, and will end in December 2021.

Despite receiving various responses from the community, the Papua Special Autonomy Fund is considered to have a positive impact, although it is accompanied by several notes.

The Secretary of the Jayawijaya FKUB, Rev. Alexsander Mauri, said that despite the opposition from the community, the Papua Special Autonomy Fund had a positive impact. It's just that, there is no proper regulation in managing it properly.

"If you look at the amount of funds that have been decreased for more than 19 years, it is quite large, even able to prosper the people of Papua. The question is, why do some people reject it," he said, after the webinar "Moya Discussion Group with the theme of Special Autonomy Funds for Developing Papua," in Jakarta .

In order for the Papua Special Autonomy fund to be right on target, Mauri asked the central government to be firm in its use in the regions. Moreover, he continued, there is no law enforcement for officials in Papua, regencies, cities in Papua in the use of Otsus that is not right on target.

"That is what makes the impact of Special Autonomy funds not maximally absorbed and the community does not enjoy it. The current funds are supported by other than Otsus. If the government wants to evaluate and check. If there are irregularities, it will be processed," he explained.

As is well known, in an effort to increase the degree of welfare and economic development of the people in Papua and West Papua, the government has disbursed special autonomy funds or autonomy funds.

In the financial note along with the 2020 State Budget (APBN), it is stated that Papua's special autonomy funds are mainly used for funding education and health.

In 2015, the special autonomy funds for Papua amounted to IDR4.9 trillion and IDR2.1 trillion for West Papua. The special autonomy fund will continue to be increased until 2020 to Rp. 5.9 trillion for Papua and Rp. 2.5 trillion for West Papua.
