The Minister of Home Affairs Asks the Papuan People to Support the 2020 Population Census

Tito Karnavian, Minister of Home Affairs, said that BPS would conduct a population census in order to obtain real figures for 2020 because it is hoped that the people in Papua will support these activities and the population census will later use basic data from the Dukcapil of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

People in Papua are expected to support the 2020 Population Census so that they can get real numbers with a population identification number (NIK).

He said that currently the Ministry of Home Affairs' Dukcapil data is already 98 percent and the two percent that have not been recorded are in Papua. The role and support of the community in Papua is needed so that data collection can be carried out to remote areas.

"By being recorded, the people are confirmed to be registered and have an electronic NIK and KTP," said Tito while admitting that the census conducted did not record indigenous Papuans (OAP).

The Papuan people are Indonesian citizens so that the data collection carried out is the same as other residents and there is no difference, said Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian.
