The Asmat Regency Government has allocated IDR 28 billion for handling COVID-19

The Asmat Regency Government of Papua Province is currently allocating IDR 28 billion for handling COVID-19. Asmat Regent Elisa Kambu when contacted by Antara from Jayapura on Friday admitted that the funds were allocated to the Asmat Regional Hospital in the amount of Rp21 billion, the Health Office Rp2.5 billion, Dinsos Rp3 billion and the remaining Rp94 million for the Public Works Service.

The amount of funds allocated to the Asmat Regional Hospital is so that the hospital can be operational immediately, especially in the face of the corona virus pandemic. Indeed, Asmat Hospital has not yet finished its work, but with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic the positive community isolation will be used later.

Various preparations are now being accelerated so that the hospital is ready when there are residents who are declared positive, said Kambu while acknowledging that until now no residents have tested positive for COVID-19. Many people in Asmat are not aware of the dangers of the corona virus, so they are still doing activities to and from Timika. Reports received by the public still frequently travel to Timika, which currently has the highest number of citizens infected with COVID-19 in Papua, said Kambu.

Regent Elisa Kambu admitted that his area had implemented social restrictions so that there were no more ships and planes carrying passengers. But people who have motorboats still often travel to Timika or vice versa and they lean their motorboats directly to the villages, making it difficult for monitoring, I am the Regent of Kambu.
