1,000 tons of rice from Bulog for the Mimika community

The Mimika Regency Government, Papua Province, requested the Timika Bulog Office to provide more than 1,000 tons of rice to help the people affected by the economy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Head of Mimika Syahrial Food Security Service in Timika said that the rice that has been distributed by Mimika Regency Government to 16 districts (sub-districts) has reached around 350 tons.

Then 50 tons of rice will be distributed to villages in the Mimika Baru and Wania Districts. Meanwhile, the allocation of villages in the two districts will absorb around 750 tons of rice.

"To help the communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic we have asked Bulog to provide more than 1,000 tons of rice. Some of it has been distributed mainly to districts in the coastal areas," Syahrial said.

Syahrial ensured that food aid for communities living in a number of villages in the Mimika Baru and Wania Districts would be distributed at the latest starting on Friday (8/5). The number of residents who will receive assistance in a number of villages in the two districts is 9,000 based on the Village Fund distribution data.

While food aid for communities living in 15 villages in the Mimika Baru and Wania Districts plus two in the Kuala Kencana District will be distributed no later than next week.

The total number of residents who will receive food assistance in 17 kelurahan in the three districts is 33,000 families with an estimated population of around 165,000.

"We ensure that basic food aid for villages in the Mimika Baru and Wania Districts will be distributed no later than Friday. While for the kelurahan we target to be distributed next week because the data of the recipients of aid is very much proposed starting from RT, kelurahan, district to the district level. Don't let anything be missed because it's not properly recorded, "Syahrial explained.

He explained the food aid package distributed by Mimika Regency Government in the form of rice, cooking oil, instant noodles, granulated sugar, coffee, eggs and others. Delay in the distribution of food aid to the people who live in two districts namely Mimika Baru and Wania because rice transport vessels from Merauke had just arrived at the Pomako Port of Timika on Tuesday (5/5) night and were unloading cargo to be transported to the Timog Bulog warehouse.
