Jayapura Implements Social Motion Restrictions

The Jayapura City Government established a policy of limiting social movements to reduce the spread of new types of corona viruses. Access connecting Jayapura City to Jayapura Regency will be closed at exactly 14.00 CET starting this Sunday.

This was conveyed by Chairman of the Covid-19 Handling Task Force in Jayapura City Rustam Saru when contacted from Jayapura last Friday (4/24/2020).

Rustam explained, the implementation of the policy of closing the border road between Jayapura City and Jayapura Regency was in accordance with the Jayapura Mayor's Instruction No. 4 of 2020 issued this Friday.

"Closing access that connects the two regions can prevent the spread of Covid-19 from becoming more widespread," said the man who also serves as Deputy Mayor of Jayapura.

Deputy Mayor of Jayapura Rustam Saru when providing basic supplies to residents affected by Covid-19 on April 17, 2020, said that his party had also carried out quarantine of a number of residential complexes in 12 sub-districts which were included in the red zone of the spread of Covid-19.

"In 12 of these villages there have been a number of positive cases of Covid-19. Therefore, we have instructed the village leadership, RT, and RW to tighten the access of residents and prohibit all activities of gathering in large numbers of people, "he said.

Rustam added, it also requires citizens to be monitored (ODP), families of positive patients with Covid-19, and patients with supervision (PDP) not to leave the house for two weeks.

"We provide food assistance to residents with ODP status, the families of positive patients, and PDP for two weeks," he added.

Jayapura Regional Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Gustav Urbinas said his office had set up a security post on the border of Jayapura City and Jayapura Regency.

He explained, residents from Jayapura Regency and surrounding areas could no longer enter Jayapura City starting at 14.00 CET. While residents who want to leave Jayapura City are given a deadline until 18:00 CET.

"Access to the city of Jayapura is only open to medical personnel who carry patients as well as vehicles that transport basic goods and fuel oil," Gustav explained.

Head of Papua and West Papua Regional Division Bureau of Logistics (Kadivre) Sopran Kenedi said, his office had coordinated with the local government so that the delivery of basic goods continued to run smoothly in the middle of closing access to Jayapura City.
